Lee Rushing serves as the director of Backpack Evangelism®.

Lee grew up the oldest of five children in the same neighborhood in a Houston suburb his entire upbringing. He attended public schools and church, and knew nothing about a personal relationship with God. He left home at the age of 17 and was living a rebellious and party lifestyle. Just before he turned 19, his only younger brother drowned while on a camping trip. A few weeks later a partying friend invited him to attend a home Bible study—he had to go see what weirdness had happened to this friend and three others he also knew. That very night, he believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord, committed his entire life to Him, and was transformed in Christ. He reconciled with his family, and his life was set on a new course.

He later attended college and graduated from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. He did graduate studies at Jerusalem University College in Israel. He is currently finishing a Master of Arts in Missiology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. In seminary, he has been honored in Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges. He is also a past member of Toastmaster's International, having obtained his CTM and ATM.

Before entering full-time ministry in 1994, Lee worked in the areas of information technology, corporate business, and sales. In other ministry positions, he has served as a pastor, youth pastor, orphanage chaplain, and other areas. He has had experience with youth and adults on the streets, in missions, prisons, jails, and state schools.

Lee regularly speaks in churches, schools, homes, missions, conferences, seminars, retreats, and camps. He has coordinated local mission trips in the United States and foreign mission trips, including Argentina, Brazil, and Nigeria.

Lee and his wife, Sherry, have been married 25 years and live in northwest Houston. They have three sons, Bryan (a Construction Science major at Texas A&M University – whoop!), Stephen (a web-designer and graphic artist) and Kevin (home-schooled and loves little league baseball). He can often be found playing on the racquetball court, on a date with his wife, reading with his family, or watching a good movie.
