Nigeria - September 2002
We were invited to speak at a Campus Minister’s Networking Conference in Nigeria. We also had the opportunity to preach the Gospel in area villages. Brian Radabaugh, Youth Pastor at CrossRoads Baptist Church and one of his students, Adam Martin, joined me on this trip.

This was one of those kinds of trips where much of what you expected you would see did not happen. (The summer break for university was extended for 2 weeks and the conference was attended by 1/10th of what was expected.) Instead we saw God orchestrate our circumstances and relationships into a most interesting and profitable trip. We especially saw God use us in the lives of many individuals from our workshops and even in our hotel rooms. People would literally come to our hotel to seek us out.

On the University of Port Harcourt (with about 35,000 students), about half of the student s are involved in Bible fellowship groups. These groups are led by what they call campus ministers. These campus ministers are COLLEGE STUDENTS. Their passion and hunger for the Lord and to know more is incredible. We could have led workshops all day, every day and they would not have tired!!

Brian and Adam got to work with a church that had recently finished building a building in a new part of a village. We got to go into some remote villages and preach the Gospel. In one village I went to, I was the first white man they had seen in over 10 years.

In the two villages I preached in, there were over 150 people who responded to the Gospel. One lady and her grown daughter came back the second night. The mother testified that she had tried to get her daughter to church for years. She had come the night before, gave her life to the Lord, and was there that night and shared her testimony to what God had done in her life.

The church building the conference was held in was several years old - concrete floor, plastic chairs, no windows yet or any “creature comforts” and only a few light bulbs at night.

This was truly humbling. When we visited with the groundskeeper of the church property, his wife said about their house . . . “by the grace of God!” Bodi Village Crusade - as they gathered early
